CAMBRIDGE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say the investigation into the disappearance of a 12-year-old upstate New York boy has been reclassified from a missing person case to a probable child homicide.

Cambridge-Greenwich Police Chief George Bell says Thursday that Jaliek (juh-LEEK') Rainwalker hasn’t been heard from since he disappeared in the fall of 2007 and likely met with foul play.

The boy was living at the time with his adoptive parents, Stephen Kerr and Jocelyn McDonald, in Greenwich in rural Washington County, on the Vermont border. The couple has said Jaliek ran away. Police say Kerr was the last person reported to have been with the boy before he disappeared.

Police say the couple hasn’t cooperated with their investigation.

Authorities say they've found a jacket Jaliek was believed to have been wearing when he disappeared.end of story marker
