SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — Police say a man whose blood-alcohol content was three times the legal limit is charged with leaving the scene of an accident in which his car sideswiped a police cruiser in South Burlington, Vt.

Police say the South Burlington police car had stopped, with its lights flashing, to attend to an unrelated accident early Saturday morning when it was struck by a passing vehicle. The officer wasn’t injured.

After a vehicle driven by the 21-year-old Peter Rumbough sideswiped the police cruiser, it became stuck in a snow bank. But it broke free and drove off.

Police from three departments found the vehicle and Rumbough was seen walking away from the damaged car. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.end of story marker
