DERBY, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont State Police say a roofing contractor is facing fraud charges after he took shingles off the roof of a home but didn’t replace them this winter.
John Murphy of Derby said he had entered into a contract of $10,800 to have his roof replaced by Paul Kearse Jr. and his company, Maple Leaf Construction. The contract was signed in September and Murphy paid $8,000 at the time.
The Burlington Free Press reports (http://bfpne.ws/UpFJlD) the roof replacement did not start until November. The roof had not been replaced as of last week.
The 32-year-old Kearse of Newport City is scheduled to appear in superior court on Feb. 26.
