WATERBURY, Vt. (AP) — Vermont has overhauled its sex offender registry database and website.
The Vermont Department of Public Safety says the new system will improve the quality and accuracy of the information in the database. Among other things, it will be able to send notifications to sex offenders electronically and provide law enforcement access to a map of all sex offenders in their area.
The registry is used to record and track convicted sex offenders in Vermont.
The registry came under fire in 2010 after a state audit found dozens of errors in it.
