DURHAM, N.H. (AP) — Playing toward the end of the regular Hockey East season, the University of Maine beat No. 4 New Hampshire 4-3, while Vermont tied No. 6 Boston College 4-4.

Playing on UNH’s ice in Durham, UMaine (11-17-7, 7-12-7) skated to a 4-1 lead before the Wildcats fought back to within a point in a wild third period Friday night. The loss means New Hampshire (18-9-6, 13-8-5) remains in a logjam at the top of Hockey East, while the Black Bears clinch a spot in the Hockey East tournament with that win and a University of Massachusetts loss.

Playing at home in Burlington, Vermont tied Boston College 4-4 in a seesaw battle Friday night. That, tied to a Merrimack loss, guarantees the Catamounts (11-16-6, 8-12-6) a place in the Hockey East quarterfinals.end of story marker
