BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A 22-year-old Vermont man is going to prison for between six and 15 years for his role in a fatal shooting that police say was part of an effort to steal crack cocaine.
Jacob Beane of Winooski was sentenced Friday for his conviction on a charge of assault and robbery resulting in injury.
Prosecutors say that last April, Beane, 39-year-old Robert Dougherty and 28-year-old Krystal Tyler planned to rob Abdul Clay. Police say Dougherty shot Clay during the incident in the parking lot of an apartment complex.
Dougherty has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder and assault and robbery resulting in injury. He is being held without bail.
The Burlington Free Press (http://bfpne.ws/16u2hFP ) reports Tyler was released from prison to enter a drug treatment program.
