NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) — The CEOS of two foreign firms that plan to open sites in the Northeast Kingdom are visiting the region.
The president of the Korean bio-tech firm AnC Bio has announced a partnership with the University of Vermont to help recruit scientifically trained researchers. Menck Windows USA, whose parent company is German, plans to make energy efficient windows in Newport.
Vermont Public Radio reports (http://bit.ly/10QaaDu ) that the companies plan to bring more than 600 new jobs to Newport.
Jay Peak Resort President Bill Stenger, who is leading the economic development initiative in northern Vermont, said permitting and investments are on schedule for four other projects.
Much of the investment will come from foreign investors taking advantage of a special visa program encouraging them to invest in the United States.
