MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — While Vermont’s rifle deer hunting season has closed, hunters have other chances to get a deer this year.
Vermont’s muzzleloader and second archery seasons opened Saturday and run through Dec. 15.
A muzzleloader hunter may take one legal buck anywhere in Vermont. In addition, a hunter who received a muzzleloader antlerless deer permit may take one antlerless deer in the Wildlife Management Unit designated on the permit.
A legal buck must have at least one antler with two or more points at least one-inch long.
In most cases special licenses in addition to regular hunting licenses are required for muzzleloader and archery seasons.
Biologists say preliminary indications are hunters have done well during the rifle season.
