New Jersey Man Charged with Attempted Murder in Vermont Shooting

Vermont State Police have named the two men arrested in connection with Wednesday’s Springfield, Vermont shooting.

Leon Jiggetts, 26, of Newark, New Jersey, was arrested and charged with attempted second degree murder and robbery. Also arrested was Jabbar Chandler, 33, of Charlestown, New Hampshire. He’s been charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and burglary. A 16-year-old suspect has not been charged, though police said charges “would be forthcoming.”

Police still have not released details of the shooting, but have identified the victims in a statement released Thursday night:

Joseph Atkinson, age 19 of Springfield, sustained gunshot wound to torso; and continues to receive medical treatment at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Timothy Carleton, age 30 of Springfield, and Amanda Booker, age 24 of Springfield, were both treated and released from Springfield Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police yesterday said the shooting came after a “confrontation” near the victims’ Springfield home.
