Burlington company that makes iPod accessories sells brand

BURLINGTON, Vt. --A local company founded by a Champlain College student that makes accessories for iPods has been sold to a San Diego company.

In two years, the business Mophie, founded by Ben Kaufman, expanded to include 14 jobs and had revenues of just under $1 million last year. Revenues are expected to reach $3 million to $5 million this year, Kaufman said.

Mophie makes cases and other accessories for iPods.

The company has been sold to a San Diego company called MStation, which makes high performance docking stations for iPods. The sale price was not disclosed.

Kaufman will continue to design iPod accessories and other products under the company name Illuminator. Mophie gets its product ideas from an online database of 50,000 members.

"Why limit this extraordinary process to iPod accessories when it can easily be adopted by any organization for virtually any decision making activity?" Kaufman said in a statement
