SHEFFIELD, Vt.—A company hoping to build a 16-turbine wind power project on a Northeast Kingdom ridge line is going ahead with construction while their permit is appealed to the Vermont Supreme Court.
UPC Wind is planning to put up meteorological towers to measure wind speed and direction in Sheffield. It hopes to begin construction of the turbines in June and complete the project by December.
UPC Project Manager Matt Kearns says the company is confident its permit will be upheld by the Supreme Court.
A citizens group called Ridge Protectors is asking the court to overturn UPC's permit.
The 420-foot turbines would produce an estimated 40 megawatts of electricity.
