MONTPELIER, Vt.—Gov. Jim Douglas has appointed St. Johnsbury Town Clerk Sandra Grenier to fill the seat vacated by state Rep. David Clark, who died last month.

Grenier was one of three candidates the St. Johnsbury Town Republican Committee had nominated to replace Clark.

Clark died February 22 at age 85. He had represented St. Johnsbury in the Legislature for a decade.

Grenier will fill the seat immediately, and remain as town clerk.
