MORETOWN, Vt.—Vermont State Police say a 24-year-old Duxbury man was in stable condition Saturday after being shot in the chest by a friend who was playing with a handgun.

Police say Ryan Larose was taken to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after first being transported to Central Vermont Hospital from the scene of the Friday night incident in Moretown.

Police say 22-year-old Joshua Walls of Moretown is expected to be charged with reckless endangerment.

Police say Walls told them he was playing with the gun and didn't realize it was loaded when he shot Larose.
