BURLINGTON, Vt.—Burlington Mayor Bob Kiss wants the City Council to give him permission to negotiate a land deal with a developer who wants to build a 124-room downtown luxury hotel.

The location near the corner of Cherry and Battery streets is now the site of a new hotel, parking garage and luxury condominiums.

The original developer was unable to build affordable housing as planned and so paid the city $400,000 dollars. The city took control of the land.

But the hotel developer claims it should control the land.

So Kiss is asking for permission to negotiate a deal for the site.
