Montreal woman charged with killing ordered hospitalized
NORTH HERO, Vt.—A judge says the Montreal woman accused of drowning her 8-year-old son in Lake Champlain will be confined to the Vermont State Hospital because she is incompetent to stand trial.
Friday's ruling in the case of 50-year-old Louise Desnoyers by Vermont District Court Judge Michael Kupersmith was a formality.
Last month Kupermith found Desnoyers incompentent to stand trial on first degree murder charges that she killed her son.
Legal proceedings against Desnoyers are now on hold until she regains her competency, no matter how long that takes. Once she is competent should could go on trial.
Police says Desnoyers killed her son Nicholas Desnoyers-Langlois in August 2006 because she was breaking up with the boy's father.
