PUTNEY, Vt.—Vermont State Police fire investigators say they don't know what caused the fire Saturday night that destroyed the Putney General Store.

Police say Putney firefighters and departments from neighboring communities in Vermont and New Hampshire were able to save nearby buildings.

The fire was reported at about 10 p.m. Saturday. When firefighters arrived the third floor of the building was totally engulfed in flames.

Police say the building is considered a total loss.

There were no injuries.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is continuing.
