POULTNEY, Vt.—Vermont State Police say a Poultney teenager is facing charges after a small bomb exploded on school property.

Eighteen-year-old Edward Dematties is charged with placing a homemade explosive device on the Poultney High School bleachers a week ago.

Police say the device was a plastic soda bottle filled with a chemical cleaning agent. It exploded during an unrelated school fire drill.

No one was injured in the April 30 explosion, but police say school staff was nearby.

Dematties was charged with possession of a dangerous or deadly weapon on school property. He has been cited to appear in court to face the charge.
