Police say Bennington firefighters charged with sex crimes

BENNINGTON, Vt.—Two Bennington firefighters are facing sexual assault charges involving a female 15-year-old junior firefighter.

Bennington Rural Fire Department First Assistant Chief Shawn LaFountain, who is 31, pleaded innocent during a court arraignment Tuesday to charges of sexual assault and lewd and lascivious conduct.

Authorities say 22-year-old firefighter Colby Harwood pleaded innocent to three counts of sexual assault on the same teenager.

Authorities were alerted by the girl's mother. Police then interviewed the victim as well as the two men before bringing the charges.
