MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—The Middlebury Town Clerk's office is shifting to a four-day week as a way to save energy.

Town Clerk Ann Webster says starting Monday, her office will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The move will help employees save gas on commuting and Webster is ordering that office equipment be shut down more frequently to save on phantom energy use, when equipment is on but not being used.

The move only applies to the Middlebury Town Clerk's office.
