LAS VEGAS—Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean is trying to register and mobilize young voters in Nevada.

Dean told a group gathered at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Wednesday that the race between Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain is a "generational election" and an opportunity to vote for a candidate who represents the future.

Dean told the group of about 100 young people "this is your time."

The former presidential candidate and Vermont governor was in Las Vegas as part of a DNC voter registration bus tour. He says the party believes there are 16,000 Democrats in Nevada who are not registered to vote.

Nevada is among a handful of states where McCain and Obama are tied in early polls.
