BURLINGTON, Vt.—Court documents say a series of malpractice lawsuits against a Burlington eye doctor are nearing conclusion.

The Burlington Free Press says 10 former patients have settled malpractice suits against Dr. David Chase in the last 20 days.

The settlements for undisclosed amounts means three former patients still have claims against Chase.

Chase ran an eye-surgery practice in Burlington for 35 years. He lost his license in 2003 after the state received reports he was pushing patients into unjustified cataract surgeries.

Federal prosecutors filed criminal charges, but he was acquitted of all the charges or had the charges dismissed by a judge.

The settlements in the civil cases were reached after a judge ordered that all of the Chase cases undergo mediation.
