BURLINGTON, Vt.—Two Burlington city council members wants to offer a public apology to veterans offended by comments made during a Veterans Day ceremony by the representative of Mayor Bob Kiss.

The Progressive mayor says he didn't know what the speaker, a peace activist who spoke about conscientious objectors, was going to say.

But Burlington Veterans of Foreign Wars post commander Bob Colby says the comments were inappropriate for the occasion.

The Burlington Free Press says Republican Councilors Paul Decelles and Vince Dober are going to offer an apology resolution at their next meeting on Monday.

Decelles says the mayor's decision to have the peace activist speak on his behalf was like "inviting an atheist to give an Easter service."
