ADDISON, Vt.—The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife is closing a fishing access beneath the Lake Champlain Bridge in West Addison because of safety threats from the now-closed bridge.

The Department says the Chimney Point Fishing Access Area will be closed indefinitely.

The bridge between Vermont and New York above the fishing access was closed to traffic Oct. 16 because of safety concerns. Experts say the bridge is so deteriorated it must be demolished and replaced.

The state of Vermont says boaters and anglers who used the Chimney Point access can drive two miles south to the McCuen Slang Fishing Access, which will be maintained throughout the winter for people who want to go ice fishing in southern Lake Champlain.
