The four Republicans in the Senate are pushing to require the state to immediately appoint a control board to take over Lawrence’s finances. Republicans said they will file an amendment today when the Senate is scheduled to debate a bill that would allow Lawrence to seek an additional $35 million in bonds to balance its budget. The bill approved last week by the House would require the state to immediately appoint a state overseer, but would not provide for appointment of a finance control board unless the overseer determine that the city cannot manage its finances. House Republicans also pushed unsuccessfully for immediate appointment of a finance control board. (AP)Boater fined $200 after hitting 2 whales
