ADDISON, Vt.—Addison voters have rejected a school consolidation plan for Addison County, reversing a Town Meeting Day vote.

Residents voted 191-148 on Tuesday against consolidating schools in the five communities of the Addison Northwest Supervisory Union.

The plan requires all five town's approval to move forward.

Vergennes residents also voted against the plan in Tuesday's second vote, 139-127, but not enough voters rejected it to reverse the Town Meeting Day vote.

The Burlington Free Press says the plan called for a unified union board with 12 seats from the five communities.

The five communities passed the consolidation plan by strong margins in March but petitions called for a revote in Addison and Vergennes.
