SHEFFIELD, Vt.—Vermont State Police say a driver has died after her car hit a moose on Interstate 91.

Twenty-seven-year-old Xantippie (pronounced zan-IP-ee) Larose died either late Monday or early Tuesday when her 1996 Subaru Legacy hit the moose while driving on the interstate in Sheffield.

Police were alerted that Larose, of Newport, was overdue at her destination and sent troopers out looking for her. They found her car, which had hit a deer and veered off into the woods sometime between 11:30 p.m. and 1 a.m.

They say she was killed on impact.
