ADDISON, Vt.—A Vermont historic site on the shores of Lake Champlain is going to be closed during construction of a new bridge to New York state.

Vermont officials say the road to the construction site for the new bridge is the same road used to reach the Chimney Point State Historic Site.

The Chimney Point site commemorates Native American, French colonial and the early Americans who used the area.

Commissioner Tayt Brooks, who oversees the Division for Historic Preservation, says the state had hoped to keep the site open during construction, but people could be at risk if they're too close to the bridge construction site.

Work is getting under way on a new bridge between Addison and Crown Point, N.Y.
