BURLINGTON, Vt.—A Burlington, Vt., police officer says a construction worker trapped under a street sweeper is lucky to have survived with only minor injuries.

Police Lt. Art Cyr says that when he arrived around 7 p.m. Monday all he could see were the victim's boots sticking out from under the sweeper.

The driver of the sweeper apparently didn't see the worker and backed over him.

Police say firefighters jacked up the sweeper to remove the victim, whose name was not released.

Cyr says the sweeper's brushes weren't spinning when the man was run over.

Police say the victim and the operator of the sweeper are employed by the same contractor, which was paving city streets.
