FAIR HAVEN, Vt.—A Vermont police chief is hoping information from the public can help him recover a commemorative military pistol stolen from the home of a veteran of the war in Iraq.

Fair Haven Police Chief William Humphries says the .45-caliber pistol bears the emblem of the Army's 101st Airborne Division along with the inscriptions "Task Force Thunder" and "Screaming Eagles."

The Rutland Herald says the loaded gun was stolen from the home of Ron Irwin earlier this month along with a number of other items.

Irwin served in Iraq in 2005 with the medical helicopter unit of the Vermont National Guard, which was attached to the 101st. Members of the unit were able to buy the specially made pistol.

The gun is valued at $1,000, but Irwin calls it irreplaceable.
