BURLINGTON, Vt.—A Burlington, Vt., company that makes websites for auto dealers is being ordered to pay more than $138,000 in back overtime pay to employees who had been misclassified as exempt from overtime.

Mark Bonfigli, the founder and chief executive officer of Dealer.com, tells the Burlington Free Press he had worked with the U.S. Department of Labor for two years to ensure employees are properly classified.

He says the process was collaborative.

The money will go to 161 current and former employees. So far 148 employees have received the money they were due.

Bonfigli says some former employees are hard to find.

Dealer.com employs about 375 workers in Burlington, including 33 added in the past week.
