BURLINGTON, Vt.—A faculty member of Burlington's Champlain College known for an international discussion forum between students in 17 countries has been named Vermont's college professor of the year.

Fifty-year-old Gary Scudder is an assistant dean for global engagement.

Scudder originated the Global Modules program in which Champlain students exchange ideas with their counterparts at colleges across the globe, including Jordan, Russia and India.

Scudder was chosen for the annual award by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.

Champlain President David Finney says the award is "an extraordinary honor."

Scudder has been at Champlain for 11 years. He tells the Burlington Free Press he's humbled by the award.
