The new president of Vermont’s Goddard College says the tiny school, which thrived on the counterculture of the 1960s, is back, with the highest enrollment in 30 years. Now solely a low-residency college in which adult students spend eight days on campus each semester and do their studies off campus, the school has grown from about 100 students in 1981 to 804 last fall. The college ended its traditional residential program in 2002. President Barbara Vacarr, who will be inaugurated today, says the school is ready to take a leadership position with its innovative programs. (AP)
