BARRE, Vt.—The Vermont Foodbank says a foundation founded by the late actor and philanthropist Paul Newman has donated $30,000 to help bolster relief efforts in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene.

The donation to the foodbank is part of a total commitment of $150,000 in grants donated by Newman's Own Foundation to five Vermont organizations.

Foodbank CEO John Sayles says officials expect people affected by Irene will struggle for months, maybe years to recover. He says the Foodbank will continue to support the recovery of Vermonters in need of food help, now and in the future.
