MONTPELIER, Vt.—Officials are reminding Vermonters hit hard by flooding from Irene that crisis counseling is available to help them cope with the stress.
The program called Starting Over Strong-Vermont, or SOS, provides short-term support for people, groups and communities affected by the flooding.
The free services are available by calling toll-free 855-SOS-VT00 or 855-767-8800.
The Health Department said Tuesday that crisis support workers will help people find healthy ways to deal with loss and stress and better understand and cope with their experiences from the flooding.
The services, which are supported by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, will be available until the anniversary of the storm on Aug. 28.
Individuals who need more support or treatment will be referred to community services and agencies.
