BENNINGTON, Vt.—A man living in an apartment building run by the Vermont Department of Corrections has pleaded not guilty to breaking into the store next door.

Twenty-year-old Frank Ruggles has been charged with burglary and petit larceny.

Police say the owner of River Street Variety reported on Oct. 28 the store was broken into and tobacco products were taken. The lock on a door separating the store from the apartments had been taken apart and put back together on one side, leading police to suspect Ruggles and 30-year-old Timothy Brockway, who lived there.

The Bennington Banner reports (http://bit.ly/tWpxa8) both admitted they were involved with taking apart the lock. Both also admitted to taking tobacco.

Brockway pleaded not guilty to burglary charges earlier this month.
