SWANTON, Vt.—Vermont State Police are on the lookout for a man who broke into home in Swanton and attacked an elderly man before fleeing.
Police say 89-year-old Frederick Greeno was awakened shortly before 2:30 a.m. Saturday by a motion detector alarm coming from his elderly wife's bedroom. Greeno uses the detector to alert him if his wife, who suffers from dementia, gets out of bed and needs assistance.
Police said Greeno's wife was sleeping when he checked on her, but that an intruder dressed in black clothing screamed at him and struck him on the ear when he entered the bedroom a second time.
Police say cash was stolen from Greeno's wallet. The intruder also left drawers and cabinets open after searching them.![]()
