Share your reaction to the gay marriage decision

Massachusetts's highest court ruled 4-3 that same-sex couples are legally entitled to wed under the state constitution, but stopped short of allowing marriage licenses to be issued to the seven couples who challenged the law. The court ordered the Legislature to come up with a solution within 180 days. What are your thoughts on the issue?

This is a great day for Massachusetts and the entire country. Same sex couples deserve and need equal protection because their obligations and responsibilities as citizens are the same as everyone else. Couples with children and estate assets must have the ability, like everyone else, to protect their loved ones and to manage their affairs without the burden or stigma of "second-class citizenship". Hooray for this next big step in a long and arduous process.

Bible Leviticus Chapter 18 22 You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; such a thing is an abomination. straight from the bible, this cant be taken any other way other than being gay is wrong. with that said, how can this possibly get passed. subjecting society to this is also an abomination, thanks alot

Excellent news! Justice Marshall wrote a great opinion -- I look forward to the battle in the legislature! Let Finneran huff and puff all he wants -- there is a principled majority in this state who no longer want to deny basic rights and privileges to their fellow Bay Staters, who will make itself known on the statehouse steps and beyond. The institution of marriage needs all the help it can get these days -- just watch "Joe Millionaire" or "Who Wants to Marry My Dad" if you don't agree. Stable couples and families of any orientation should be celebrated and protected.

I only have three problems with the ruling: 1) Why didn't the SJC have the guts to issue the marriage licenses immediately rather than leave the implementation to our bigoted legislature? 2) Why did it take them over six months to make this decision? What the heck were they doing? 3) There are still three bigots left on the MA high court.

A long-overdue courageous decision. Kudos to the majority (justices) and the plaintiffs and their legal team for perservering. THe Constitution makes a small comeback. THere may be hope. I'm straight by the way and know a lot of straight people who absolutely support this ruling.

God help us all!! America= Sodom and Gomorrah!

Way overdue. The argument that a marriage between a man and woman is somehow threatened by a gay couple wanting to marry is beyond preposterous. With over 50% of traditional marriages ending in divorce as it is I fail to see how the institution of marriage is damaged by including gays and lesbians. Conservatives are all for "smaller government" except when they disagree with a particular lifestyle.

All i can say is it is about time. This is a wonderful piece of news and I can't wait to get married !!

EQUALITY UNDER THE LAW. AMEN!!

This should not even be an issue. It's common sense. As human beings, we are required to be fair, just and considerate to each other. Love should have no boundaries, and no person, governing body and/or church has the right to say who should or should not be married. For those who are saying "God is not pleased," I ask this - when did you speak to God? How do you know? Are you hearing this from the same people who preach hypocrisy every Sunday? I am willing to bet that God is not pleased with you, because you chose to hate and be ignorant. I am thankful I live in a state that has the courage to say the ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional. I can only hope the rest of country and our idiot president can show the same courage.
