Share your reaction to the gay marriage decision

Massachusetts's highest court ruled 4-3 that same-sex couples are legally entitled to wed under the state constitution, but stopped short of allowing marriage licenses to be issued to the seven couples who challenged the law. The court ordered the Legislature to come up with a solution within 180 days. What are your thoughts on the issue?

This ruling is ridiculous. A perfect example of the judiciary trying to legislate from the bench. The Peoples' Republic of Massachusetts.

Rock on! And to all the people wailing and gnashing their teeth about this -- too bad. Welcome to the 21st century. For one thing, my god is giving this decision thumbs up, and frankly, the Christian god, if he truly loves his followers, would be doing the same. For another, sobbing "What about the children?????" is ridiculous, because a stable, loving, gay parent environment is much better than an abusive heterosexual union. I know which one I'd rather have.

To intolerant people, What you think is not what others think. Why do you think that your ideas must be the same for everyone else? Worry about your own life and stop worrying about what other people are doing. Mind your own business. If two people wish to join together in marriage then that is their decision and their right. Not the government's, not the church, and certainly not you. This a wonderful day in American history. It's a progressive day and it's about time. More days like this will come. I am a happily married heterosexual man who loves gay people. Not because they are gay but because they are people. I believe in the idea of "live and let live", laissez faire, and the libertarian message. Congratulations Massachusetts. You've done well and have set a solid example for America.

Michael, Pennsylvania

To the naysayers: If you believe that same sex unions should not happen and stand for that...fine you, and everyone else are entitled to your opinion. But make it an educated opinion. If you say that gays should have rights, as long as they keep them out of the public eye, then you are a hypocrite because part of equal rights is not having to hide your identity. The same statutes on public sexuality should apply to all people regardless of sexual orientation. If you say that the "Founding fathers" didn't mean to extend this right, you are probably right, but they also didn't want to extend the right for *Women Voting, *Interracial Marriage, * People of color voting or owning property, and many other things that have come to be. These rights we take for granted were something that people had to fight for..no different than what is going on today. Society has come a long way in supporting marginalized minority populations, this is just one more step in that direction. I don't want to ramble on, but for future posters please support your positions in logical and intelligent positions.

Michael, Dorchester

Why the hell not? It's all about minding your own business, and no, it is NOT your business when two consenting adults decide to sleep with each other. I got news for anyone that opposes this ruling based on religious beliefs: WE HAVE SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE IN THIS COUNTRY. If you want to live someplace where church and state are the same entity MOVE TO IRAN.

James, Worcester

This ruling today shows how our society has lost it's morals! The legislature should pass a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage! This could only happen in Massachusetts.

Bob, Boston

As a heterosexual living in MA I applaud this decision! It's good to see that "Separation of church and state" occassionally applies, even if the right-wing Christian jihad in this country would rather merge the two...

Jeff, Wilmington

It's about time! This is a great ruling that rightfully extends equal rights to all citizens in the Commonwealth.

Miranda, Watertown

I have a question for all you religious zealots out there that oppose this ruling based on your belief in "God" and the bible. This country was founded on the freedom of religion, ALL religions, not just the Christian/Judaic bible. IF you take the bible away, why should gay marriage be illegal? I am heterosexual, and I praise this ruling. You have your beliefs, and I have mine. Just because you believe in the God known as Jehovah, does not mean that you're beliefs should translate in to LAW for everyone else.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD , the people he chose for his inheritance. Psalm 33:12 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. Proverbs 14:34 Taking these two Biblical passages into consideration, I find it extremely audacious of people to ask, in the wake of national tragedies like 9-11, to ask, "Where was God when this happened?" God's word is very clear on the blessings that are bestowed on a people for righteousness and the curses inflicted because of unrighteousness (see Deuteronomy 28). Does God bring destruction, calamity, and confusion? No. God IS, like many say, a God of love, grace, and mercy. He is incapable of causing evil. But He is also a God of justice - perfect justice. What kind of God would He be if He allowed sin and evil to go unpunished. No God at all. He ALLOWS evil in an attempt to draw people away from their sin and into His loving arms. America, however, continues to turn their backs on God. America is blessed for many reasons. Our forefathers built this nation's laws upon Biblical morality. Nearly 100% of the Constitution's framers believed that our government would fail without the foundation of Judeo-Christian morality. This nation's wealth has sent missionaries all over the globe to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. This nation has supported and defended Israel, God's chosen people (Genesis 12:3) since helping it to re-establish itself as a nation in 1948. But America is running on borrowed time. A great preacher once said, "if God does not judge America, He better apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah". And Sodom and Gomorrah did not have one Bible, not one Christian book, not one God-ly radio or TV station. America has heard the warnings and chooses to ignore them, and for this, God's judgment is imminent. Oh, and besides general wickedness, what was one of Sodom's great sins? From our words sodomy and sodomize, we know that it was homosexuality. God detests this practice. The Old and New Testaments speak out against this sin. First Corinthians 6:9,10 makes it clear that NO homosexual will go to Heaven. Yet America distorts God's word and defames His holy name by giving support to this practice, yes, even allowing it into the "church" of Jesus Christ. America puts the Ten Commandments in the closet, we slander God's name, we support sin in our laws and court decisions, we take prayer from our classrooms, and we strike His name from our pledge of allegiance, and then we ask for His blessing??? Where is God when tragedy strikes? He is where He has always been. We are the ones who have moved, and we have moved very far from our moral foundations. But God still forgives sins. The blood of Jesus Christ was poured out for the sin of all mankind (even homosexuality) and anyone willing to turn and repent from their sin and accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior will find forgiveness. God's blessing can return to our land. God's word says: "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land (2 Chronicles 7:14)". God IS love and grace and mercy, but He is a God who administers justice, and He will judge America's sin if America continues to be stiff-necked and proud. But as a believer in Jesus Christ, I have nothing to fear. God tells his children to: "Be still, and know that I am God; I WILL be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth (Psalm 46:10)." And all those who continue to deny God, mock His word, and refuse the forgiveness of Jesus Christ, just know that Hell is a real place. It was not created for men. It was created for Satan and his fallen angels. However, Hell has been made ready for men who do not turn from their sin and accept Jesus Christ. Jesus is coming soon, and when He does be sure "that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father". That includes the knees of all those who forsake Him to the end. God Bless
