Share your reaction to the gay marriage decision

Massachusetts's highest court ruled 4-3 that same-sex couples are legally entitled to wed under the state constitution, but stopped short of allowing marriage licenses to be issued to the seven couples who challenged the law. The court ordered the Legislature to come up with a solution within 180 days. What are your thoughts on the issue?

Super! I can't tell you how happy we are! Barboza & Susi

In this day and age, how can it still even be considered a controversial issue? I can't wait for all the religious people to tell us what God thinks about all this. So much for separation of church and state. But anyone who is going to quote chapter and verse on homosexuality from the old testament had better look closely and make sure there aren't any rules in there that they are breaking, lest they risk serious hypocrisy. Get over it. Gay people happen. They're just like the rest of us and they deserve the same rights the rest of us have. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Live and let live. Mind your own business. Etc.

When I read that at least one justice used that old procreation chestnut to justify his opposition I couldn't help but laugh. he essentially stated that hetero couples who don't have cildren are really not legitimately married. As for Governor Romney and his one man-one woman stuff, I wonder how many of his Mormon ancestors had multiple wives and thought that was holy!

I am so glad we have finally made this step. It is heinous that we have denied equal protection to a segment of our society based on outdated prejudice. Denying gay couples the right to marry was comparable to when black people couldn't vote and women couldn't own property - just because a segment of society may have a perverse idea of another person's roll in society doesn't justify the denial of rights.

Ask yourself this.... How does this affect your daily life? For most of you it doesn't. Let's spend our time discussing a real issue.

What is this world coming to!

Well the ACLU must be rejoicing as this state takes another setp towards becoming a secularist/hedonist dream come true. Better that we remove all barriers....let's let people have marriage with children and dogs...and then the ACLU will have achieved their goal in completely destroying this country!!

Wendy, Cambridge

Careful what you wish for. If in fact they allow actual marriages. I think it will be interesting to see the difference in divorce rates between men and woman after 10 years or so.

Now that it's legal for gays to marry, will companies cease to offer same sex partner benefits? I bet we'll hear howls of protest from the gay lobby if they do stop that benefit.

I think the decision the courts made today is way out in left field. So, whats next? Maybe we can marry our dog like one person mentioned in his response. Its a joke. A marriage is a sacrid vow not a civil issue. Two men or two woman can't have kids and if they do adopt or find another way what about the kid? The kid will be missing either a father or mother and will never have the joy of knowing whats its like. I respect more the single mothers and fathers out there that can least bring the child up normal. If gay men or woman want to live togther fine but don't put it in our faces. The court may have ruled in your favor but it will only create more controvery in our society. This decision will never be truely accepted by the people of this country .
