Share your reaction to the gay marriage decision

Massachusetts's highest court ruled 4-3 that same-sex couples are legally entitled to wed under the state constitution, but stopped short of allowing marriage licenses to be issued to the seven couples who challenged the law. The court ordered the Legislature to come up with a solution within 180 days. What are your thoughts on the issue?

Thanks Massachusetts! it's about time to take on the last frontier of civil rights. i like rights just like everyone else does.

Cindy, Somerville

My gut reaction, disgraceful. God sanctifies the law of marriage between a man and woman. There is no wiggle room on this definition. This SJC ruling further undermines the Christian principles this country was founded on. This is a poor and immoral decision of "equality" I hope the rest of the country does not follow.

Bravo! And congratulations to the seven brave couples who started this entire thing! Best of luck to them in the future.

I would like to say thanks to the SJC. In the future I hope that gay and lesbian couples are granted all of their civil rights and not just the "basic civil rights" that Romney has in mind...

Which party do you suppose the judges will be biased against if lesbian parents divorce- the one most resembling the man?

The Court has commited an irresponsible act and has abandoned its obligation to the citizens of the Commonwealth. There are two alternatives: (1) impeach the four justices who made the decision, or (2) it's time for the executive and legislative branch to challenge the notion that its is the sole province of the judiciary to interpret the constitution. Impeachment is simpler, and has fewer consequences. The second option is more threatening to the judiciary. The idea that the judiciary has ultimate authority to interpret the constitution is rooted in the claim of the judiciary. That is, no one ever gave the judiciary this power -- they took it. It's time to take it back.

For a long time I've believed that Margaret Marshall was the most dangerous person in the Commonwealth, but this decision is a legally correct one. What will now tell the tale is how our "progressive" solons on Beacon Hill will react. They all talk a good game, but when it comes time for them to stand up and be counted, they usually can be counted on to run. A divisive issue like this on is radioactive for people like my state rep. He's never been one to vote his conscience instead of political expediency.

Rick, Melrose

i do not beleive that gay couples should marry. i beleive that things are fine the way they are. the bible does not state man and man or woman and woman. No one is chaning the bible are they??? then why change the law????

Donna, Boston

All of you celebrating are totally clueless and laughable. Look at the big picture. 70% of the US public, and probably 60% in Mass, are against it. All of your bleeding heart Dem candidates are going to HAVE to make a stand on the issue next November. And, the Republican tide will continue to roll from sea to shining sea. Face facts....you lost on partial birth abortions. You lost against the war in Iraq. And, you'll lose BIG TIME on this as well. What a sad time to be a liberal. Enjoy it while it lasts.....

As a society we do have a great many other issues to deal with. Child Poverty, Single parents who do not earn enough to feed their children. Pollution and the effects on our health etc etc. Same sex marriage is at the bottom of my concerns. They pay taxes, are generally better educated and are most likely to keep their committment to bringing up a child in an intellectual and loving way.
