Share your reaction to the gay marriage decision

Massachusetts's highest court ruled 4-3 that same-sex couples are legally entitled to wed under the state constitution, but stopped short of allowing marriage licenses to be issued to the seven couples who challenged the law. The court ordered the Legislature to come up with a solution within 180 days. What are your thoughts on the issue?

Can someone tell John Kerry to stop now and save his wife's money? With this ruling and his Massachusetts roots, he's done nationally.

Joe, Taunton

It's about time!!!!

This is a great day for Massachusetts and a great day for America. I support the ruling 100%

Joe, Belmont

Marriage was instituted in the very early days for three purposes: !. Procreation of the species. 2. To avoid sexual promiscuity 3. To prevent disease. The most important is the first, and medical science tells us that same sex couples cannot procreate - therefore, perhpas, our society will not perpetuate itself without heterosexuality.

Finally, a progressive vote in favor of tolerance. I am fully in favor of this ruling!

Jason, Brookline, MA

Its about time! There is no reason anyone should be denyed the right to marry. Race, Gender, Culture, Age...every American deserves fair and equal rights. Isn't that what what the US of A was founded on? Not religious beliefs or benefits if you fall into certain categories. This is not the first time the gov't has tried to ban marriage. Years ago, marriage between races (black & white) was also illegal. It apparently did not fit into the definition of marriage. One more thing...Webster adds/changes its words in dictionaries annually...who is to say he can't easily just change this definition? UG!

Casey, Charlton

As encouraging as this ruling is - and I think it is very encouraging - no one should be deceived into thinking that the road is anywhere near ended. We have a governor who wasted no time in expressing his contempt for the SJC's ruling and his endorsement for an exclusionary and hate-driven constitutional amendment, and a Speaker of the House whose fisticuffs around the Clean Elections Law demonstrated that he has enormous disrespect for the will of the people and the courts. Let's enjoy the champagne and have a good holler today, but remember that tomorrow we need to get up and continue to fight. That said, thanks SJC for a moral and morale-boosting victory.

it's definitely about time!! but, i think it's sad that so many people who claim to be "christians" use their religion to oppose this progress. i was raised a catholic and i am a loyal christian, but the one thing that jesus taught was NOT to judge others. i think that some of these christian conservatives should pick up their Bible and actually read it. if you use religion to oppose homosexuality, then i suppose you support domestic violence and oppose eating shellfish? perhaps we should close all the fish restaurants in MA b/c one statement in the Bible suggests that we not eat clams or scallops? anyways, i'm really proud to be a MA resident today!!

It's about time! Gay couples should have the same rights.
