Share your reaction to the gay marriage decision

Massachusetts's highest court ruled 4-3 that same-sex couples are legally entitled to wed under the state constitution, but stopped short of allowing marriage licenses to be issued to the seven couples who challenged the law. The court ordered the Legislature to come up with a solution within 180 days. What are your thoughts on the issue?

Thank you to all the civil right leaders of generations past. If it were not for all the Martin Luther King Jrs and the Rosa Parks today would not be here. Thank you for your strength and inspiration!

De Anne, Somerville

I cannot see a legal reason why gays should not be allowed to marry. But the ruling is unfortunate just the same. Given the liberal bias of our state, I am sure we will have to pay some ridiculously unjustified tax simply to support this nonsense.

Mark, Foxboro

I think it's heinous for the courts to endorse same-sex marriages. If gays want to be joined legally, couldn't they find a way to do that without calling it "marriage"? Marriage is for heterosexual couples. Couples who can copulate and propogate the species. It is an abomination. If a person wants to screw with someone of the same sex, it's his/her business, but why, oh why, do they have to push it in our faces? Totally deplorable.

Bonnie, Billerica

It is about time that decent, taxpaying, gay and lesbian citizens will get the same legal rights that heterosexuals have had for centuries. "Thank You " to the Supreme Court

Donna, Belmont

I have never been so happy to have been brought up in Massachusetts. I am so excited that the Courts have ruled this way and see that gay couples just want to be afforded EQUAL rights. I hope that the courts in other states continue to make these kinds of changes so that we, the USA, can continue to be "land of the free", rather than "land of the free except if you are gay." I also hope that our President will look upon this ruling and perhaps learn from it. That the Pres sees that the courts recognize gay people as as equal citizens and that it's time he does the same.

Ned, chicago

Once again our beloved liberals in this state have chosen to attack the very fabric of our society - the family. The justices have proven once again that they are out of touch with mainstream society. It is completely unnatural for people of the same sex to be married. What kind of message does this send to the the rest of the country? No wonder the rest of the nation thinks this state is a freak show!!

Marcus, Milton

It's about time! Congratulations to Massachusetts for being the first to realize that people who wish to marry should be able to do so, not just me and folks who are straight. I applaud this decision!

janet, dorchester

It's about time all people were treated as human beings whose important relationships are equally acknowledge and protected by the law as a basic human right.

Suzanne , Boston

No offense to anyone, but I hope that the state amends its Consitution to outlaw marriage between persons of the same gender.

The high court is way out of bounds on this. What's next? Maybe I can marry my dog. Is there a provision to impeach the judges for stupidity?
