Share your reaction to the gay marriage decision

Massachusetts's highest court ruled 4-3 that same-sex couples are legally entitled to wed under the state constitution, but stopped short of allowing marriage licenses to be issued to the seven couples who challenged the law. The court ordered the Legislature to come up with a solution within 180 days. What are your thoughts on the issue?

Todays victory is only the beginning of a long battle. We, as members of a community, must now rise up and let our government officials know that following this ruling is their only option. The Governor and many conservatives think that they can us the legislation to see that their own views and ideals are met at the expense of others. We must be a force that never faulters and never lets up. Let the letters flow into the State House. Let the ads in the newspapers tell of the injustices. Make those who oppose us see the truth. And let that truth work its way into every persons heart. This is a good thing for my partner and I, a good thing for my landladies, a good thing for my family, and a great thing for Massachusetts. Bravo!

Paul, Brookline

You can't attack the judges for this. All they're saying is that a ban on gay marriages violates the Mass. Constitution, and it does. I was once a Bible thumper and for a short while jumped on the stupid anti-gay wagon before I smartened up. They have rights, too. To all those who would quote Leviticus as proof that it is wrong, I say that you shuld read the rest of Leviticus. It says a lot of strange things that a modern person would disagree with, and it doesn't say anything about health insurance for gay partners. Also note the parts of the New Testament when Jesus says to love your neighbor and not to throw stones unless you are without sin.

California has just recalled a governor who failed to represent the will of the people. The four Mass. Juctices who have placed their own agenda ahead of the peoples should be recalled in like manner. President Bush's Judicial nominees are being kept (filibustered) out due in part to the same tactics of loading the courts with immoral self-serving social engineers. They should be removed. Massachusetts rise up. The people must act, or your children will become the victims of these sexual preditors.

Mark, San Diego, CA.

Well, if marriage is mainly for procreation, does that mean that couples who are infertile cannot marry? Or people who do not want children cannot marry? I'd rather teach my children to be accepting of others than to be judgmental.

"Will you marry me" takes on a whole new meaning. I hope my husband doesn't get fresh with our plumber.

This is an amazing and wonderful thing! Keep in mind the decision is legal, NOT religious so it has nothing to do with God or the church. Also keep in mind that there is still a way to go with both our Speaker of the House and President who are against gay marriage.

Thank you, Massachusetts!

Thank you Michael, Pennsylvania. (see below) Congratulations MA for having the guts to step up and give same sex couples the same rights. So many people are so quick to judge, and get so angry. I dont understand how this hurts anyone that is complaining about it ! To intolerant people, What you think is not what others think. Why do you think that your ideas must be the same for everyone else? Worry about your own life and stop worrying about what other people are doing. Mind your own business. If two people wish to join together in marriage then that is their decision and their right. Not the government's, not the church, and certainly not you. This a wonderful day in American history. It's a progressive day and it's about time. More days like this will come. I am a happily married heterosexual man who loves gay people. Not because they are gay but because they are people. I believe in the idea of "live and let live", laissez faire, and the libertarian message. Congratulations Massachusetts. You've done well and have set a solid example for America.

This is wonderful news. We need to start recognizing that same sex couples exist and deserve the same rights as heterosexual marriages.

there needs to be a civil recgonition of rights and responsibilities for people who will, or can not be a family. homosexual, polygamists, etc... marriage is defined for a family. a famliy requires a male and female.
