Share your reaction to the gay marriage decision

Massachusetts's highest court ruled 4-3 that same-sex couples are legally entitled to wed under the state constitution, but stopped short of allowing marriage licenses to be issued to the seven couples who challenged the law. The court ordered the Legislature to come up with a solution within 180 days. What are your thoughts on the issue?

Cindi from Dracut- You quote the Bible: "Hate what is Evil" (Romans 12:9). How about looking at that entire verse: "Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." Are you claiming that the people who want to be married are insincere?

Joe, Newton, MA

I'm amazed at the arrogant and self-centered world view of these "christians" who will angrily and loudly claim to speak for God. It doesn't even make sense to presume that certain sexual practices are not created by God, didn't God create everything? Congratulations to all couples who now feel that they may marry publicly. Come to Massachusetts, we like gays better than we like bigots!

Amy, Waltham

I am so elated by this ruling.. everyone needs to contact thier legislative leaders and have them support this ruling. Massachusetts is the pioneer in the civil rights movement.

Stephanie, Cambridge

This is great

It's about time that families headed by homosexual couples got the same rights and responsibilities of families headed by heterosexual couples. Such basic things as visiting a spouse in the hospital are denied without a civil marriage license. Further, civil marriage has nothing to do with god or religion; this ruling affects neither. What it says is that the state cannot discriminate unfairly against some citizens. And who could be in favor of the state discriminating against its own residents?

As a heterosexual woman I am proud to live in Massachusetts. About time people begin to open their eyes on this issue. For those who see homosexuality as morally wrong or evil I find it hard to believe you have ever taken time to analyze your beliefs. Where is the wrong/evil? And to CINDI, from DRACUT, you say "'hate is evil', homosexuality is just that". Two questions for you. 1. How is homosexuality hateful? I am missing the connection. 2. Your hate towards homosexuals is apparent by your comments; therefore are YOU evil?

Denise, Cambridge

Dear M. Stevens (Natick), You are absolutely right, Democracy is based upon the majority. Thankfully, the majority of people (gay and straight) believe that gays and lesbians should be afforded the same rights as those that are straight. Democracy is not about denying minority groups rights because they are a smaller percentage of our society. Take a look at this response board, the "majority" of people here believe that the SJC made the right choice. Perhaps Sir, you are the one in the minority. I'm straight and I'm proud to be living in Massachusetts today.

I am sickened and embarrassed by the ruling but not surprised. Social and moral values continue to erode as human kind fools ourselves into believing that there is no moral right or wrong. The only thing that matters is the satisfaction of our own desires.

John , Norwood

This is amazing news! A step toward full equality for yet another group marginalized by prejudice and hate. And for those of you defending your negative responses with religious and biblical citations, I have but one statement for you: keep YOUR god out of our government!

Jeremy, Taunton

I am very saddened & disappointed that this ruling passed. It goes against all the laws of nature.
