Share your reaction to the gay marriage decision

Massachusetts's highest court ruled 4-3 that same-sex couples are legally entitled to wed under the state constitution, but stopped short of allowing marriage licenses to be issued to the seven couples who challenged the law. The court ordered the Legislature to come up with a solution within 180 days. What are your thoughts on the issue?

A wonderful and historic day! Thank you SJC for recognizing me as an equal citizen of this state!

This ruling should be thrown out - marriages are for a union between one man and one woman. Period. You are entitled to your own opinion, but who are you to judge because you do not think it is right? Is it effecting your life? Your Job? Your marriage? No I am sure. Welcome to the real world and deal with it.

It is ridiculous for some people to insist that the issue of same sex marriage should be decided by a popular vote of the people. The Constitution is there to protect minority groups. Wasn't it the courts, interpreting the Constitution, that got rid of segregation? Who can deny that in many parts of the country, if it were put to a popular vote today, segregation would be approved by the majority? The Constitution protects the interests of minorities from the tyranny of the majority.

Someone told me years ago that religion was the source of all evil. I thought it was a strange statement but over the years have come to realize that it is. We go to war, hate, kill, and discriminate all in the eyes of religion. I am glad that the court realized that religion could not interfere with their decision. What a great day!

Congratulations!!! It only took two hundred some odd years for a state in this country to finally seperate church and state!!! For all these bible thumping idiots screaming about why God is ashamed, when does your religion take precedence over the laws that are abided by people of all religions. This is a nation that believes in equality for all, not just equality for the majority... You opposers make me sick, your the same people who preach for the children then support these child molesting priests. Who is God really ashamed of...

I think that today's ruling is a monumental step forward with regards to providing gay people the same rights as heterosexual people. I'm kind of amazed, however, at the responses from people who are so strongly opposed to this ruling. Maybe I take living within Boston's city limits for granted, 'cause Linda in Mattapan, and Debbie in Dracut..you scare me. I've never really had a strong grasp of what makes certain people so incredibly stupid and intolerant and judgemental. More importantly, I've NEVER understood why so many people find it acceptable to hide behind their "God" while they hurl rocks at other people. If you need to lean on "God" or "Jesus" to help you feel better about your own shortcomings as a human by all means do so. But, please, whatever 'rules' you're handed apply to you, and to your fellow shortcomers....don't feel as though you have the right to apply them to the rest of us. If your "God" gets pissed because of anything that you do....that's your problem to deal with....NOT OURS...he's your "God" remember???? Can't help but ask: for all of you who claim to have spoken directly with God today...what kind of a phone plan does that require? Do you have equal success getting through on radio station contest lines??

Totally Gross!!!!

Please do not champion this decision as one for basic human rights. Both heterosexuals and homosexuals have been granted rights that other people in America and all over the world will never know.

I can not believe this is happening, what a sin. God made Adam and Eve. Marriage should be between a woman and a man!. THIS WORLD IS DEFINATELY COMING TO AN END.

sheila, boston

Just a word to those who commented that marriage is an institution intended for those who can "propagate the species." This is such a weak argument. There are many heterosexual couples who cannot, or choose not to have children. Yet no one denies them the right to be married, simply on this basis.
