Share your reaction to the gay marriage decision
Massachusetts's highest court ruled 4-3 that same-sex couples are legally entitled to wed under the state constitution, but stopped short of allowing marriage licenses to be issued to the seven couples who challenged the law. The court ordered the Legislature to come up with a solution within 180 days. What are your thoughts on the issue?

I wasn't going to put in my two cents, however, reading everyone's comments, I quickly got annoyed at the continued ignorance of some people. My question to all you close minded, ignorant, citing the bible, (blah blah blah) people...HOW does this decision really affect YOUR life? I mean, really? Other than taint your rose colored world. That a couple can now reep the benefits like all us heterosexual married couples do? ie; power of attorney, health care proxy, taxes, med and dental benefits, 401's, etc, etc. It doesn't, at all. Whether you feel it's morally right or wrong, that's not the issue here. THe issue is to provide gay and lesbian couples with the same benefits/rights that us married couples have. And those people that have so much to say against this decision, I also bet you don't know one person that could benefit from this decision, which just adds to your ignorance and prejudice. It's fabulous that this decision was made...it's the first step. And now my family and friends can benefit from such a courageous decision! It's about time!

For all of those stating that "The Bible" says this, and "Jesus" says that. What if you're not Christian? What if you're wrong? Do you deprive people of BASIC CIVIL RIGHTS just because of your religious beliefs that may not even agree with those whom you sit next to in church every Sunday! Massachusetts should separate church and state and stop issuing marriage licenses to anyone! Let the churches/synagogs/temples/etc. do it!

It is a sad day when how you get off determines who you are as an individual. In a society where we are able considered civilized, I find that the Justices were correct in their interpretation of the law, but pray the legislature fix what John Adams and his fellow legislatures over looked in defining a marriage in our Commonwealth's back when our constitution was written. A marriage between a man and a woman is different that a homosexual relationship. There are laws against fellow man, and there are laws against nature. I do not know who the gay community thinks they are fooling. I understand that there is some genetic, or behavioral trigger that guides you toward being attracted toward a person of the same sex. The problem that occurs is when you blur the line between a perverted act, and accepted behavior. I hate to judge. However, when living in Boston and seeing the Gay Pride parades and the unclothed man and woman ...and transexuals, I have a hard time trying to understand what the message is? I do know that while walling at the end of Charles Street with my family of the way to Cheers, and my 3 year old and 6 year old seeing a man with breast attached openly exposing he/she self as heshe dances on the back of a truck with others similiarly dressed....... My kids just looked as if they were at the parade. Circus folks.... I guess this sums this all up. The gay movement is just a circus. I am not buying a ticket here.

The SJC was right on under the law. If you don't think it's right to marry someone of the same sex, then don't do it - but that's where your personal decision-making authority on the topic ends. I am absolutely disguisted by the hatred, vitriol, and plain ignorance of the postings on this board against the gay marriage ruling. I am a heterosexual married woman and I'm here to tell you that you all sound totally irrational, like you're members of some sort of sexual-orientation KKK. I hardly think God would be proud of you if he came down and saw the trash you're writing about your fellow human beings. You are no better than homosexuals or anyone else - that principle of equality is the cornerstone of our Cosntitution, that is what women, minorities, and now gays have fought to recognize for years, and that's the truth that our highest Court proudly reinforced with this ruling.

Finally an over due step in the right direction

The nation just took one step closer to destruction. Just another example of man perverting life to suit his own purposes... Wake up America before it's too late. I'm sure Sodom and Gomorrah thought that they were doing the right things too - we all know what happened to them. If you don't, you may want to dust off your Bible.

There is so much I want to say to all the people that disagree with this this history making ruling. 1) The ruling says that this is not a religious ruling. THe judges did not let any God factor in to their issue. PERFECT! They way it should be. We are a nation with Separation of Church and State. So all of you who are saying God this and God that... it doesn't matter. You have your religious belief and leave them OUT of my life. Don't preach to me and don't you dare say that MY GOD doesn't want me marry the person I LOVE 2) You say that this ruling is going to ruin the fabric of our nation... WHAT? That's just plain silly. I'm shocked that my marrying my long time partner will destroy a nation. MAN I AM THAT POWERFUL! 3) This is the 21st century...it's great that the courts are current and not stuck in 60's. Homosexuality is here and it has always been here and it WILL always be here. Embrace it and accept it. 4) For those who say marriage is for procreation... I say COME ON! My arguement is an age old arguement to that... Why can straight people marry and not have kids, should their marriage be nulled if no children? Why can straight people, to old to bare children be allowed to marry? What happens when a woman/man are unable to have a child, should they still be allowed to marry. Enough said 5) Quit with the polygamy comparison. It isn't the same. It never will be the same. They should not even be grouped together. 6) Joe Millionare, Who Wants to Marry a Millionare, Who wants to Marry My Dad... need I say more. Straight people have been able to abuse their right to marry by making a mockery of it and yet they can still say "it's sacred" and "it's God's will" Way to go Massachusetts. I am proud to have been born and raised there.

i think it is clearly another liberal decision that sucks.its no wonder other nations believe the U.S.is the evil empire.in the eyes of the church,is this what they convey?

The message from "Dan from Sandwich", on page 29, says it all. The religious right seems to forget about the idea of separation of church and state. Also, there is absolutely no sanctitiy of marriage anymore, with more than 50% of all heterosexual marriages ending in divorce. Let people live their lives as they see fit!!! This is a day to be proud to be from Massachusetts!

I'm going to SCREAM if one more person asks "What's next? People marrying dogs?" Do you realize how inane and insulting that is? Do you realize how stupid it makes you look? Stop it for your own good. Undoubtedly people asked the same thing when women were given the right to vote. Do you see dogs at the polling stations? Stop your overreaction. The world will not end. God will not incur his wrath. Life will go on and a lot more people will be happy.
