What is your reaction to DNC road and rail closures?
In a move that is certain to create major headaches for Boston commuters, security officials have announced that Interstate 93 will be shut down in both directions for all four evenings of the Democratic National Convention in July, and North Station will be closed to all commuter rail and subway service. What is your reaction? Are these security precautions justified, or is the Secret Service going overboard? Do the benefits the convention will bring to the city make the inconveniences worthwhile?

These security precautions are justified for the Fleet Center. However, Gov Romney already announced the solution, The DNC should be Forced to relocate to the new conventtion center. Shutting down the major transportation network for Boston is Unjustified. The solution is simple. For the sake of security the DNC must relocate to the convention center.

No, send the dems to southie where they belong

NO NO NO While I 'm not directly effected, this is just wrong. Send the convention to cape code and leave the commuters alone.

I understand the need for the DNC. I understand that the convention has and will ultimately bring money into our state. I understand the need for suffocating security measures. Is the DNC worth it for Bostonians? What is the bottom line? I do not believe the attention Boston has received is worth the security nightmare, the amount of tax payer money allocated to the convention, nor the inconvience that all of the above will surely provide. I am a democrat. But maybe Mitt was right. Unfortunately, I agree it is too late to change venues, but that does not mean I cannot hold a grudge for Mayor Mennino not taking into consideration the enormous burdens placed upon his fellow Bostonians.

What benefits? How could four days of visiting delegates offer any significant economic advantage to the average Bostonian? For most of us, it will be a major inconvenience and a headache. The politicians just care about their own agenda, not the average citizen. I for one plan on being as far away from Boston as possible that week.
Eric, Boston
No, the closings are not necessary or justifiable.
Pam, Nahant
Paranoia has a long history of doing more damage than good. This is ridiculous.
Shane, Somerville
If security planners are unwilling to close the highway and subway for every other Fleet event, the more equitable solution is to cancel the convention.
Tom , Braintree
Yes, the closures are justified and expected. The officials are giving commuters and residents alike more than ample notice to plan accordingly - so do so and stop complaining!

This convention may be about showcasing Boston, but it sure feels like its about hiding the ugly stepchildren - citizens, employees and patrons of the city. Mayor Menino should just come out and say what is apparent, "We are hosting important people the last week of July, so residents of MA, please stay away"
