What is your reaction to DNC road and rail closures?
In a move that is certain to create major headaches for Boston commuters, security officials have announced that Interstate 93 will be shut down in both directions for all four evenings of the Democratic National Convention in July, and North Station will be closed to all commuter rail and subway service. What is your reaction? Are these security precautions justified, or is the Secret Service going overboard? Do the benefits the convention will bring to the city make the inconveniences worthwhile?

The pitch in 2000... Please bring the Democratic National Convention to Boston. The Big Dig will be completed (except for beautification efforts) and we will build you a new convention center with state of the art technology and capabilities. The reality in 2004... No, you don't HAVE to use the new convention center that cost our citizens $800 million and has already thought out security measures. You can use one of our entertainment arenas that will be too small for your needs and have terribly poor layout for a convention and flow for people. But hey, did we mention the Big Dig is finished and open to traffic? It cost us $14 billion and it's brand spankin' new- hardly even used! Oh, you want us to close that too for the convention? Yeah, the heck, it's only taxpayer money after all.

It sounds like a vacation week has been made for 1,000's of commuters into Boston. See you on the beach........

This is ludicrous, to stop all this traffic is going to cause absolute meyhem for people on the Northshore and NH. Their needs to be another form of transportation added to get us into the city. Maybe set up a commuter ferry from Logan (parking purpose) into the city, Or get some of the high speed ferries that go to the islands and send them from the Northshore. This convention is like any other event in boston and these percautions are not taken. I understand this is high profile, but I beleave that this is over the top.

The convention should be moved to the new convention center if possible or if not it should be cancelled. The disruption will be a nightmare and well beyond what any city should tolerate.

This is ridiculous. It is just another bad decision by Mayor Menino. He is clearly trying to raise his standing in his party with little or no concern for the city he claims to love so much. If he really loved the city he would have the convention move to...hmmmm...I don't know...MAYBE THE OVERPRICED NEW CONVENTION CENTER HE FOUGHT FOR!!!!!!

I think that for 4 days we should have security in place instead of shutting down major arteries of our highway system and our Rapid Transit system, unless the State of Massachusetts wants to ShuDown the City of Boston for the 4 days the National Democratic Convention is in town. What are people thinking? We who work in Boston need to be able to get into Boston so that we can make money to support ourselves, and unless Mitt Romney and National Government are willing to pay us what we won't be earning because we can't get to our jobs, people need to think of a better way of handling "Homeland Security" than shutting down I-93 and North Station commuter and subway systems.

HaHaHa Note how closing North Station is in the hands of the Republican state house and federal government. This is a political trick to turn the locals against the Democrats. It is unneccessary. HaHaHa

Keep the morons out - keep the highways open!
Tommy, Malden
There is a new convention center that could have (still could!!) save all this trouble.
Joe, South Boston
The terrorists have won. Again, a major American city will be paralyzed. Move the DNC to Gillette Stadium.
