What is your reaction to DNC road and rail closures?

In a move that is certain to create major headaches for Boston commuters, security officials have announced that Interstate 93 will be shut down in both directions for all four evenings of the Democratic National Convention in July, and North Station will be closed to all commuter rail and subway service. What is your reaction? Are these security precautions justified, or is the Secret Service going overboard? Do the benefits the convention will bring to the city make the inconveniences worthwhile?

I can understand the Secret Service wanting to take such measures, but considering the nightmare it is going to create for commuters who use not only 93 to get to their jobs but also North Station on the T, perhaps they should have chosen to use the new convention center over in Southie.

Of course it is not necessary. It is just part of the Republicans' plans to undermine the Convention and make the Democrats look bad in the public eye.

If someone wants to cause chaos and destruction, (s)he will. My only hope is that officials and the MBTA are smart enough to advertise alternate routes early on. Okay-- so I don't have much hope, I guess...

If the democrats bring a city to its knees simpy confiming a foregone conclusion, what will they do to the country?

Greg , Manchester, NH

No these closings are not justified. First of all, if these idiots we have elected to run our state had any foresight then they'd be having this thing at the new "Convention Center" in So. Boston. Does anyone else see the connection? Democratic National CONVENTION....New CONVENTION Center? Secondly, if the mayor or any of his other buddies were the ones traveling into the city during the times that the station & 93 are going to be shut down you'd better believe they'd be open! As a commuter who already has enough of a nightmare commute driving from Weymouth to Lawrence everyday thismakes my blood boil. They will be closing the road that I use to come home at the exact time I come home. And they wonder why there is such a thing as road rage! I hope none of them are re-elected!

Kevin, Weymouth

I think it's too bad they have to make commuting to work for people who work near the fleet center or have to drive through that area a nightmare by closing everything down it's ridicious!!!! I myself don't commute through that area, but I know people who do and because of this mess they'll have to miss work or figure out another way to get there it's not right!!

Emily, Brighton

What are you kidding me with this? All right Menino....way to go. Has anyone done a cost study analysis to figure out how much the region is going to LOOSE because of this convention? Shutting down the major transportation routes to the city of Boston should be a major economic boon(doggle) for this city!!! Wonderful news...just wonderful.

Timothy , Newton

This is stupid. Don't they realize how many people work in Boston every day? Stupid convention. This angers me...and gives me yet another reason to dislike Democrats.

Jim, Medford

This is insane they are going to cripple the whole city so a bunch of fat cat polticians can have there little party. The need of the few does not out weight the need of the many.

Joseph , medford

Four days of inconvenience now is much better than the possibilities of what could happen if they don't take these steps. This short term inconvenience for the Dems is worth it for 4 years in White House!
