DNC security to affect I-93 from Canton to Woburn
The Democratic National Convention brings the need for security at a high-profile event into conflict with ordinary people's needs to get to get to work or home. Do current plans balance those two sets of needs well?

The CIA overrules Bush and closed the highway fearing that Bush would assassinate Kerry to reassure his re-election. Sounds good for democrats.

Nothing like making us prisoners in our own city. Either the government knows somethign they are not sharing or they are being very over cautious. To say this will impact traffic is a gross understatement. Will it really be worth it to the city economically to even have this fiasco?

The security plans are excessive and have too great an impact on Boston and the surrounding areas. Perhaps the convention should be moved elsewhere. May I suggest a remote location in the desert in Nevada so that there will be a minimal impact on people's daily routine.

Yes, the traffic plans are an inconvenience, but we've survived plenty of other traffic inconveniences before, some recently. I'm thinking of the Big Dig, the Patriots Super Bowl wins, and the Boston Marathons, to name a few. This particular inconvenience sounds really hard to endure, but really, it's just for a couple of hours for a couple of days. Perhaps it sounds bigger than other events because it's being planned so carefully. On the other hand, we can look forward to having thousands of visitors in town, stimulating the local economy and perhaps thinking of bringing more business into town or even vacationing here later. This convention will benefit us all. This is our chance to shine and show off to the entire nation. I hope that we give our visitors a warm and gracious welcome to our beautiful city.

These people (DNC) are nuts. Who in their right mind schedules a convention next to a major highway? If they were so concerned about security they should have held the convention in the middle of a dense forest where they would be safe.

Someone please explain the following sentence: "In addition, northbound entrance ramps will be closed from the southern intersection of interstates 93 and 95, in Canton, to the Mass Pike." Now, I know this is the "bizarre" stretch of road (you are simultaneously on 95N, 93S, and Rte 1N), so I initially interpreted this to mean no getting on 128 towards the split (let's agree to stick to 128 for now) from Rte 95 coming up from Providence to the Braintree split (that should sure be some fun for those coming up on Rte 24 or 95 from Providence), but then they tag on "... to the Mass Pike". Anyone seen anything to explain this reference to the MA pike or what closures will be put in place along 128? I live in Norwell and commute everyday to Needham. This will surely be a huge impact through this stretch (and for that poor person who stated that she rides the Green Line so she wouldn't be affected... think again - where do you think all of these extra folks will go - extra busses aren't going to cut it since they have been simultaneously pledged to shuttle conventioneers AND totally replace west and north commuter rail riders). I Will have to REALLY start planning a severe alternate route home now (my secret of LaGrange street and then through Readville and the Blue Hills ain't gonna work with the extra traffic). May have to buy an ATV to go through the woods I guess...

extended last call + closure of major traffic routes = DNC So just how do the democrats expect to pay for all their social programs if the taxpayers are drinking into the wee hours of the morning and they cannot get to work? It appears that the cost/benefit analysis resulted in a serious miscalculation when deciding to host this event.

What an over reaction!

Terrible idea to close the highway. I could not have thought of a better idea to alienate the voters against the Dems. Republican must be running the show.
